We were given time to try out the live online game where we answer Math questions while at the same time racing against the clock to compete with 3 other players. These other players are also of our age but from different parts of the world!

Miss M has pasted our login username and password in our individual school handbook so that we can also access the site from home. Click on the World Math 2009 picture above or here to get to the web page.
We started on the topic of division. We role played a Math story sum where 12 pieces of chocolate must be shared by 4 of our classmates.

The class helped the 4 boys by giving them instructions on what to do. Our teacher guided us through.

Then, we had to check that the division of çhocolates had been done equally and correctly. Miss M even tried to trick us into dividing the chocolates the wrong way for the 4 boys but we were too smart for that! :)

We also started on the new Big Book for this week - Beware of the Cat!

We found the story funny!

Then, we voted for new online pets for this blog. We also voted for their names. Can you spot them on this blog?
That's all for Thursday!
Up, up and away! (MLEA3 - Bubble trouble)

When Miss Mashitah brought me to Juying Primary School, she poured me into a cup. Then, she poured water into the cup and I became a solution. I felt very sticky. A child created me using a sieve. All my brother and sisters who flew out of the sieve was popped because all the excited children did it. I was the only bubble that flew high enough to escape the children. I went so far that I became very lonely and sad because all my brother and sisters had been popped by the
children. I flew into a mysterious place. In the end, I was also popped by the wind.

when I woke up, I found myself in a can of bubble solution. I could not do anything but get blown away into space. I saw my friends flying and I saw a grandmother cooking chicken rice. I heard children shouting for help. I ignored them and flew further. I felt afraid of the birds. They might pop me. I was a little worried about the birds. I wished I could see my friends and go to them. Finally, I saw Teck Weng, Jerome, Zhen Yu and Ren Bin. I almost burst from happiness.

One Tuesday morning, I found myself trapped in a cup. I woke my family up. They felt surprised when they heard children screaming. "What a noisy day,"said my mother. "Hey, we're in a cup!" Ï know,"I said. "When did you know we're trapped in a cup?"asked mother. ""Since, I was awake,"I said. Äre you sure?" "Yes. I'm sure."
The cup began to move. We were outside. The cup was moving. We were on a bubble wand. They blew us away. My family was popped. The children were screaming so loudly. I could hear them. They almost burst me but I managed to escape. I thought they were crazy. That was a close shave! I saw birds flying high up in the sky. I was worried because the birds could pop me. I saw houses with sharp pointy roof. I was worried about that too! At least I escaped from those crazy children. Days went by, I missed my family. I wondered if I would get burst soon. I finally landed. I landed on the cup that I woke up in. My family was there. We were very lucky that we have a cup that saved our lives.

One day, I woke up to find someone pouring me into a cup. Then, they poured some water on me and stirred me. The next day, someone poured me onto a plate and blew me. I flew to the sky. I saw the children screaming and chasing me. I tried to fly higher. When I realized that I flew too high, I felt very scared. The wind blew me to Juying Primary School. I saw students studying. I began to worry because the birds were chasing after me. I flew higher until they could not reach me. In the end, I flew further away.
On Tuesday, I performed magic that could turn people into anything. My friend taught me how to do it. I used the magic spell and became a bubble solution. The next morning, a child used a sieve to blow me. First, he dipped the bubble wand into the bubble solution. The child blew the bubble with a sieve. I looked like snow when I flew out from the sieve. Everybody shouted at me because they wanted me to come down but it was too late. I went up, up and away. I saw Juying
Secondary pupils who wanted to pop me too. I went up again. I heard the bird squawked. I felt tired and popped myself on a branch of a tree. I turned into myself again as the magic spell was broken. I went back to my classroom. My friend and the teacher came to my classroom. My friend and the teacher came to see me . I did not tell them I performed magic in class.
PE lesson, group writing and a camera low on battery
0 Comments Primary 2B on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 7:08 PM.Many of us enjoy badminton very much but we're not too good at it yet. Today, our teacher taught us how to keep the ball in the air and how to hit it properly. We played with a beach ball instead of a shuttlecock because it is easier to hit since it has a larger surface area.
We had groupwork in class later in the afternoon. Picture composition was done differently today. Instead of writing sentences based on the pictures, we had to list as many questions as we could think of based on the pictures. Many of us came up with interesting questions to ask about the pictures. This is the first of a 3 part composition writing activity. We'll find out about the next two stages next week . Here's the girls from the Yellow group brainstorming on their questions.
We also did paper-cutting patterns for Art today but Miss Mashitah's camera battery was flat before she could take more photos. Too bad. Better luck next time, perhaps. :P
We adopted our class plant - 3 prickly cacti. We were very curious and interested about them. We will also be taking turns to water it once every 2-3 days if neeeded. We would not want to overwater them because it might cause root rot.

We also had a physical education lesson on point balances.

We had to coordinate with our group members to give the instructed number of point balances required.

For Math, we learned to draw models that involved comparing. Many of us are getting good at using models.

Then, we read our new Big Book for the week entitled "A butterfly is born". It is about lifecycles. We also watched a short cartoon about butterflies and their pupa. We should not force open the pupa because it will only harm them.

We concluded the day with the first round of Show and Tell on "My favourite storybook".

Group writing (MLEA2 - Bubble blowing activity)
0 Comments Primary 2B on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 5:41 PM.

Look out for our individual writing pieces based on the bubble blowing theme this week entitled Úp, up and away' coming soon to this blog. :)
We tested the bubble solution that we prepared yesterday during our outdoor bubble-blowing activity. Before leaving the classroom for the activity, each of us in the group were given different roles. Some of us were in charge of pouring the bubble solution, one of us was the recorder of the group, 4 of us were each given different bubble wands to test - a sieve, a long straw, a short straw and a paper funnel.

We started with pouring the bubble solution onto the plastic plate first.

Then, it was bubble-blowing time! We took turns to blow using our assigned bubble wands while our recorder took down notes on whether the bubble wand worked and what type of bubbles were created.

Look at Eliza (behind Haziqah), she is really performing her role as a recorder seriously. She observed the bubbles that Haziqah had created with the bubble wand. Good job, Eliza!

We were really happy!

Swee Hern was trying to use his fingers as a bubble wand. Do you think it worked?

Our favourite bubble wand was the sieve. It created many small bubbles with just one blow.

We also allowed our classmates who were the recorders and those in charge of pouring the bubble solution some time to try out bubble blowing too! Everybody had a chance.
After that, it was back to class for group discussion on what we saw, what we felt, what we discovered and what we would like to do differently next time.
What you will need:
- 1 measure of washing detergent or shower foam (we used Shokubutsu)
- 2 measures of water
- some glycerine (optional, we couldn't get any so we did without it)
What you need to do:
- Pour the shower foam or washing detergent into a cup
- Add water into the cup
- Then stir it gently with an ice cream stick or spoon
- Be careful not to overstir it
- Cover it securely
- Leave it overnight
Visit us at our blog tomorrow to find out if this recipe works! :)
